Anycubic Photon Mono Kit
Version: 1.0.0

Instructions

Installation And Commissioning#

1. Disassemble the printer casing, remove the original motherboard and screen, and install the aluminum frame and screen.

TIP

2. Connect the V2 board. Connect the power cable first. Check whether the brightness of the two LEDs on the motherboard is normal. If D2 does not light up, then there is a problem with the motherboard.

Preview

Then power off. Connect the line of the UV LED light source. If the UV light source stays on when the power is turned on, there are two possibilities.
1. The light source is wired wrong.
2. The MOSFET on the main board is damaged.

Preview

Connect the other wires as well. If your original motherboard is not the V1 board, you need to change the fan plugs to 2EDG-5.08mm 2-pin plugs.

If the UI of the touch screen is not displayed correctly after installation, please refer to UI Size Mismatch for the specific solution.

3. Leveing the bed. First, control the Z-axis movement and check whether the direction is correct. If the direction is opposite, please refer to Z-axis Direction Opposite for specific solutions.
Then click Home to zero the Z-axis and check if the limit is triggered properly after adding the thickness of the aluminum frame.

Preview
WARNING
  • After clicking Home, pay attention to the movement of the Z-axis. If the building plate moves to a height close to the screen but still does not trigger the limit, click the Stop button in time to prevent damage to the screen by squeezing.

  • You can also remove the building plate first and then lift the Z-axis to put it in place after the homing is over.

The reason for not triggering the limit is that adding the aluminum frame reduces the distance the building plate moves downward, so the iron sheet behind the building plate is not long enough to trigger the limit. Please use the shim of M3 or M5 to extend it.

Preview

In addition to M3 shims, you can also print spacers to solve this problem. You can download them from some common model sites like Thingiverse. The search keywords are the printer name and spacer. If you want to download a spacer for use with Photon, you can search for Photon spacer.

4. After confirming that the printer is homing properly, place a sheet of paper on top of the screen and adjust the height of the Z-axis to reset the Z-axis's zero point. If the Z-axis zero point cannot be set and an error message appears, please refer to Zero Point Setting for the specific solution.

WARNING
  • If you buy this kit, no need to update the firmware. The v2 board comes with the right firmware to support the new mono screen.

5. Click Exposure to perform an exposure test and observe whether the pattern is normal after the screen is exposed. If there is a problem with the exposure pattern, please refer to the Troubleshooting. If there is no problem with the exposure, you can print the test model to find the appropriate exposure parameters.

If the screen in the kit is the PJ608, download this firmware and print the FPGA firmware(.CBD file). After printing the firmware and rebooting the printer, the resolution of the display will change to 1620x2560/F9.18.

NOTE
  • The exposure time of the PJ608 is shorter than that of the DXQ608.

Photon Parameters#

Download the Motherboard Parameters For Photon
NOTE
  • If the motor movement direction is opposite and other motherboard parameter-related problems occur after installation, you can print the parameter file directly to solve.

The Settings On CHITUBOX#

Download .cfg File For The Upgrade Kit

To set up the printer on CHITUBOX after the upgrade, follow these instructions:

1. Download the .cfg file of the upgrade kit.
2. Open CHITUBOX > Click Settings > Add new printer > Select Default > Import Profile > Select the Photon's .cfg file > Open
3. You need to save the file in .ctb format. After replacing the motherboard, the printer only supports slice files in .ctb format.

Preview

NOTE
  • These .cfg files only set up the Machine page, the printing parameters for the Print and other pages still need to be modified by yourself.

Of course you can also refer to the diagram below for modifications.

Overexposure Issue#

Download Machine PWM parameters

Some printers have problems with excessive light intensity from the light source. In addition, the light transmission of the Mono screen is higher than that of the original RGB screen. This leads to excess curing on the bottom layer after using the upgrade kit.

Preview

You can reduce the light intensity when printing by using CHITUBOX to reduce the PWM duty cycle.

To set the PWM of the printer on CHITUBOX after the upgrade, follow these instructions:
1. Download the Machine PWM parameters > Print this file to enable the PWM function
2. Download the .cfg file of the upgrade kit
3. Open CHITUBOX > Click Settings > Add new printer > Select Default > Import Profile > Select the Photon's .cfg file > Open
4. Advanced > Reduces the PWM duty cycle to below 100%
5. You need to save the file in .ctb format. After replacing the motherboard, the printer only supports slice files in .ctb format.

Preview

The light intensity during printing is reduced by the above operation. Although the change may not be visible to the naked eye, it does decrease. The graph below shows the light intensity measured with the UV meter at PWM duty cycles of 100, 80, and 60.
